RESILIENCE HUB
Cook County is working to establish three resilience hubs in the Southland area, and the Harvey Neighborhood Network is leading the setup of one in Harvey. The hub prepares the community for changing climate conditions and hazard events. It is a location that residents and groups are familiar with, and that they will use during a crisis.
The hub setup is expected to take several years, and it relies on community input. Harvey will be better prepared to help residents during a crisis—for example, finding temporary shelter, food, and clothing during a natural or man-made disaster.
The built-in solutions being planned include energy and green infrastructure improvements, flooding preparedness, and a store of emergency-preparedness materials. The specifics depend on what the Harvey community identifies as most critical. One feature, solar and battery backup, will be at all hub sites so they can keep running “off the grid” during an emergency.
