ABOUT US

The Harvey Neighborhood Network was established in June of 2023. It is part of Cook County’s pilot program called Transforming Places and it is one of the Neighborhood Networks supported by the United Way of Metro Chicago

How We Operate

A Steering Committee leads the Network and advances its goals. Learn more about them here. It meets monthly to carry out the Network’s mission.

Collective impact is the foundation of all we do. That is, the Network’s ideas, plans, resources, work, and results are shared by everyone involved—not just the leaders or a small “inside” group. Our goal is to serve the Harvey community with as much equity as possible.

Harvey Neighborhood Network is co-led by two Harvey-based nonprofit organizations—Restoration Ministries Inc., and CEDA of Harvey. These “quarterback” organizations and the Harvey Neighborhood Network program are expressly not organized for political purposes. We welcome the support and cooperation of everyone, including elected officials, but we do not engage in any political activities.

About Harvey

Established more than 130 years ago, Harvey has an interesting history as a city, in addition to being a suburb of Chicago. It has a robust industrial base of both older and newer companies. Its lively business community populates Halsted Street, U.S. Route 6, Sibley Boulevard, Dixie Highway, and its historic downtown. Cottage businesses flourish here too, as dozens of entrepreneurs provide goods and services out of their homes.

Harvey schools include elementary districts 147 and 152, and its secondary school is Thornton Township High School. Its houses of worship include rich array of religions and denominations. Various community groups provide options for social, arts, sports/active living, and other interests around the community. Harvey’s residents are diverse, with significant communities of African American, Latino/Hispanic, and Asian American ethnicity and heritage.
